the way the plot works
the site-wide plot is divided into 'chapters.' chapters are written in rp-format similar to how a book might be. these chapters are symbolic of every step that the site-wide plot makes. at the bottom of every chapter is several paragraphs that summarize what it said and elaborate on a few details. if you don't want to read the actual chapter just skip to the bottom.
CHAPTER 001
THE ORACLE'S FIRST PROPHECY
The Forest of Whispers had once been home to the most mysterious clan in the history of the Water Country. Their members were famous for slipping the whispers of madness into the heads of their enemies, letting insanity claim them in whatever way it might. The Forest of Whispers had never been home to anything but the oddly outgoing animals that lived there, and the spirits, some would say. Those who had ever ventured into the wood where mist hissed only feet away in every direction, came out a shell of what they had been. 'Odd shapes,' they would say, 'they appeared around me, whispering the devil's words!' Odd shapes indeed. Spirits and ghosts and banshees. You can give them whatever name you like, but they will all be wrong, for the Clan of Whispers were the only who paired the right title with these insidious shapes. 'Specters.' The spirits of the dead who had stayed living in our world whether out of spite, or out of means not entirely their own. The Clan of Whispers conversed with the Specters more then they did with the living, and formed a pact.
Deep in the Forest of Whispers, where the animals howled in the night and the ghosts were so alive with hatred, the Clan's homes were empty. The plague of power and insanity had taken its toll, and all who remained living of the family had fled far and wide, never to return out of pure fright. Deep in the Forest of Whispers, there was a cave cleaved into the side of the mountain in which the wood was propped up against. Dirty rags and cloth hung in place to keep out the insects and keep in the cold. In that cave, smoothed and hollowed by many hands, left the only remaining Whisperer. She hunched over the fire in its niche, smoke curling through her home. Pelts and animal furs were everywhere, along with the bizarre symbols etched onto the walls with stones and brushes. The Oracle's eyes fluttered, and the mist from outside began to pour under the cloth-made door, swirling in an odd, eerie whirlwind with the girl at its center. Her head was completely shaven, warmed by the hooded cloak she wore, arms covered in many jingling bracelets of gold, and bare-footed.
The mist began to emit sound that bent the very laws of physics. The sound of a tribal drum beating a war song and screeching melodies in another language that sound both excited and sinister. Then, as a backdrop for the deafening song came the sound of a thousand whispers, each slithering and hissing along the edges of time, right out of sight. The Oracle stood, head thrashing as if looking for somewhere to go but knowing that there was no way to escape. She clutched her chest and shuddered as the song picked up beat and got even louder, while the whispers sputtered and cackled with evil glee. The Oracle's eyes fluttered open, and they were not her own. Orbs of the whitest light, like lightning seared out of her skull, lighting up the entire room. The fog seemed to thicken, becoming an almost solid barrier around her as the Oracle's body lifted gently off the ground. Images, millions of them, floated through the mist, developing and growing, becoming more complex. Gathering in clarity or going out of focus, but the nearest and most monumental images projected and created by the substance were what held meaning.
There was a blond-headed shinobi whose cheeks had the etchings of whiskers, and wore the symbol of the leaf on his headband. Blood spattered his face oozing from several scratches as he huffed and puffed, clutching his side. Then, out of the gloom behind him appeared another, more wicked image. The man's hair was orange and he wore a coat of charcoal with silver-lined crimson clouds, his face pierced numerous times. Then the Oracle opened her mouth, and out of it her own supply of mist and light seeped slightly as the song tripled in tempo and level of noise. Then, suddenly silence. Broken instantly by the sound of hundreds of voices reciting at the same time, overlapped and riddled with a sound that sounded oddly divine.
The mist retreated, all whispers ceased. The glowing in her eyes was suddenly veiled by closed lids as her body dropped into a heap on the pelts. The fire was out, it had been since the fog had first arrived. Now, as the last tendrils of it slithered away, light and heat guttered and sputtered as the fireplace blazed again. Nearby, a brush lifted off of a makeshift desk seemingly on its own. Squares were cut out of the wall, housing many scrolls while still more blank ones were heaped in a corner. The brush dipped itself in ink and wrote the prophecy down before the cave was lifeless once more....
